(smile)

Over the years I've been given the opportunity to DJ in Kansas City for thousands of events...weddings, school dances, clubs and corporate events. I've met such great vendors along the way and developed some amazing friendships with both vendors, clients and colleagues. I've been given the honor of performing for my own high school's prom, Lee's Summit High School, for years which has been a true delight.

I've been blessed with family that has been so supportive of my adventures over the years...most of all my daughter Ashley. As early as 4 years old she was "finger dancing" and singing with me in the car, encouraging me and sharing a world of music and laughter. Needless to say her childhood questions of "who is Michael Jackson?" have now subsided to the smiles of a beautiful young woman whose new husband Nick is one of my most promising DJ's!

Thanks to all of you...friends, family, clients and colleagues for 17 years of helping me create a "job" out of helping people celebrate some of life's most fun moments filled with music, laughter and dancing!
"Wedding Wars" Will Soon Be On

We all got a good chuckle this summer with the movie Bride Wars. Two friends end up with the same wedding date, fighting over the same vendors...it seems so "hollywood drama". Although you and your best friend may not both want to get married at The Plaza Hotel, keep in mind that other brides DO want to use the same vendors that you are looking at.

Most people think of May, June and July being wedding season which is in fact when many wedding take place. However, the real action begins starting Jan 1. Why? Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and Valentines Day...the biggest engagement days of the year. As all of those romantic men finally decide to pop the question during these special holidays...the wedding madness begins. In 2009 between Jan-March the combined registration for brides online via The Knot, KC Weddings and The Perfect Weddings Guide was over 6,000! Ok ladies...do the math....that's 6,000 brides and only 52 Saturdays in a year...and that doesn't include the other 13,000 that register through the rest of the year (an average of 1,500 per month).

When you start making your plans...book your vendors early! 12-18 months is NOT too soon. Good vendors, those that have been in the industry for a long time, fill their dates quickly. You don't have to know what type of flowers you want or what flavor of cake...you just have to know that you want THAT vendor to do it. Most vendors simply make you reserve the date first. Once you've paid a retainer fee you can relax knowing that you aren't competing for the date with another bride. Then comes the fun part of deciding what you want, for how many people and how all of your plans will fit together.

Don't let the engagement season overtake your wedding plans...or "your wedding better watch out" (...a hilarious line from the movie Bride Wars). If you haven't seen it check it out. It's a great way to relax and get a laugh out of the fun and stress of wedding planning!
The Start Of Something New

16 years ago I started my DJ career carrying in piles of cassette tapes and vinyl records...now our music collection is on laptop. My communication with clients was done either over the phone or via the US Postal Service...now email...and as of today, this blog have taken their place.

Over the years I have found that so many clients have the same questions: "How should I lay out the room at this venue?", "What's a good song for our cake cutting?", "How long do you think the formalities will take?" All of these are things that unless you are Jane (from the movie 27 Dresses), or a wedding planner...they probably won't come easy to you.

I've created this blog to share just that kind of information. To give my clients and even those who aren't my clients, a resource to pull from that specifically addresses questions about venues in Kansas City and the surrounding areas, that gives them ideas and links to pull resources from for song suggestions, timelines and simple tips and tricks to make their special day easier.

After 16 years in the business I have also worked with hundreds of vendors in the area and will share with you those that consistently impress and amaze me. If you have reviews to share about vendors please feel free to add to my blog...we always want to hear others experiences as well.

I hope that you find this information useful and FUN as I look forward to sharing with you the joys I've had working in the business and hopefully helping you prevent nightmare moments along the way!
